in memory of my memorial day.

Home was great this weekend. Not amazing, but great. There were so many ups and downs that I can't really classify it as amazing. Home itself, the water, my dog - were amazing. Family, well, they're family. I love them but wow, they take the life out of me sometimes.
Weekend begins: Noley (my younger sister) and I rent a convertible (why the eff not?) and drive to Delaware to visit my dad. Typical Dad visit - smoking, drinking, eating seafood. I ate my weight in crab legs, oysters, clams, shrimp, and scallops. It was incredible. Dad's girlfriend turned 50, so we made her a cake, she dressed up in a fat suit - it was truly a night to remember.

Weekend continues: Driving back to Deale with my sister, top down, 80 degrees outside... sun on the shoulders. Perfect. I love her. Back in Deale, great to see my mom, but I know she's somewhat unhappy. Why? because she told me so. That is very painful to hear from the woman who I have always thought had it all together. I know her unhappiness is temporary. She is walking around on a broken leg, owns a swimming pool store and it's May, and is just stressed. Her leg is limiting her, and she can't stand it. She tries to do things with the broken leg that she'd never even try to do without one. Very strange.

Weekend ends: This is the day from heaven and hell all at once. I suppose that being raised with the typical Catholic guilt bred in my system, I was always told that when something bad happened to me that it was "God punishing me." Ok, sure. Well, whatever I did to piss the big man off, he got me back for it yesterday. He got me real good.
Morning begins: After an evening of cleaning up my best friend's puke out of my mom's imported sink (that doesn't drain puke very well), we wake up to find that her friend has puked on my mom's heirloom rug, couch, and pillows. Not only has she puked and totally blew it off like it was no big deal, whatever she drank was BRIGHT RED. Like she drank a bottle of cherry-flavored syrup, is what I would compare it to. UGH.
So needless to say, mom is FURIOUS. Broken-legged, she starts vacuuming, cleaning, and I can tell she's so very upset. We get everyone out of the house and then we spend the next few hours fighting, crying, and apologizing. But we're all very upset with some things that were happening. We had plans to go out on the boat with my mom's boyfriend, who decided he would invite other people out on the boat and made the plans around them, so we were upset about that. After more fighting and crying, we decide to say "fuck it" and to go Annapolis to go on the boat. Best friend bails out b/c she's hungover. I'm sad.
Boat time: Mom has a broken leg. Mom is stubborn and thinks she is superwoman. Mom gets wasted, which makes the previous two issues exponentially worse. I can't help but think about how she told me she was unhappy, and no matter how hard I tried to enjoy the gorgeous water, I couldn't stop thinking about her sadness, so I was sad. Yes, there was a lot of fun going on, but it was definitely overshadowed by her. It was still beautiful, but sad.

Travel time: Crying when I took the exit for the airport as mom and sister went towards home. I didn't care about the wind in my hair, the sun on my back, I just cried. I want to go home and help. I get over myself, and I get to the airport. Budget rental car blows holes. Waiting in line while other people keep going up to the counter, totally acting like they don't see the line. Whatever people. I have a flight to catch. I get very irritated, because I'm only waiting in line because something was mixed up and they couldn't return my car the normal way. Get on the plane. The guy next to me was weird. Creepy. Eerily still the entire flight, like he was preparing to do something awful. I kept thinking he was going to blow up the plane at any minute. Fall in and out of a strange sleep, where I kept having little scary nightmares. Get off the plane, I'm sick as shit. Have to run to the airport bathroom. Start sweating. Great, I think, that creepy guy released a virus on the plane. (I admit, I've watched too much 24.) Back is killing me.
Get in my car, get home. THANK GOD. Oh, except there is a stick on my windshield. I stop my car, get out to remove the stick, and when my car starts ROLLING FORWARD, with me half out of it, I realize, SHIT, I'm still in drive. At this point, I'm so exhausted, I couldn't even comprehend what was happening. Luckily, all that was in front of me was woods, but I was definitely in them, my body half hanging out of my car. It took me a minute to realize what was happening too....like, why am I getting run over here? It hurt pretty badly.
Get in my room. Thank God for something about this day. Cord. He listened to me whine for a half hour. Take my clothes off, I am covered in some sort of rash. Sick. I'm having the worst day of my life, really. What did I do, God? What did I do? Thanking him for cuddles, I finally fall asleep after the longest day in history. Happy Memorial Day to me. This one will be hard to get out of my memory.

I Wake up. Today is a new day. I look at my pictures from the weekend and realize that the weekend as a whole was great. Not every trip is going to be paradise, perfect, and amazing. That's the thing about family. You take it all - the bad and the good. The drunk and the sober, the injured and the healthy. I've had all of those experiences this weekend. I'm glad to be back in my normal life, but I want to go back and just hug my parents, cuddle with my dog, and smell the salty air. Feel the bay water on my face. Close my eyes and feel the sun on my shoulders.....

Umm, meat.

So, I usually don't eat a lot of meat. However, my body has been craving it lately. A Lot. I think it could be related to my "cycle" - no explanation needed, hopefully. Or, it could be my low iron. Who knows. I've had two great meaty experiences I want to write about. Today, I had my first taste of pastrami ever. WOW, it's delicious. Blows salami out of the water. Now, as I said, I typically don't eat a lot of meats, let alone, processed meats (can't eat pepperoni - thanks migraines) but I really liked pastrami. I always thought it was a processed meat because of the "ami" suffix. But, it's more like roast beef with great spices on it! I loved it! New fan of pastrami.

I love Mondays in the office for one reason only: The good food smells. Everyone comes in with whatever they made on their lazy Sunday and re-heats their amazing smelling leftovers, or they bring in extra pastrami for me to sample. Today, Emo Mul had this awesome Mexican casserole thing that smelled INSANELY meaty and delish. I hope she posts the recipe, wink wink! ;-)

So, my other great meaty experience was the salad I made last night. ohmygod. I was perusing through my cookbooks yesterday (lazy Sunday food making time!) and came across this recipe for a mexican style salad. Basically, it was pan-fried marinated (in garlic and lime juice) NY Strip Steak, over a bed of baby lettuces, diced avocado, tomato, mild green chiles, "mexicorn," black beans, and topped with a fab oil/lime juice/cumin/paprika/chili powder dressing! And, if you want to be naughty, some crushed tortilla chips for crunch. But otherwise, it's pretty healthy! LOVE on a PLATE. It made enough for my dinner last night, lunch today, and I still have some left for dinner tonight!

I also made a great little easy soup. It's from the Weight Watchers recipe book (5 ingredients or 15 minutes or less) - great cookbook by the way! So, if you are a "weight watcher" it's only 3 points per serving. Two bean soup - it took 10 mins to make, and was delish! I can't find the recipe online but it's in the cookbook!!

gotta spend some time with me

Delish. Easy to cook. Literally, you pop it in the nuker for 1 minute. Open, and enjoy. *Make sure to listen though, it popped in my microwave today at work and I had to clean it up.
So, it's been a while since a bloggity blog. Mostly because I haven't had much to say. I hadn't even read anyone's blogs for a while. Today was nice to catch up.
Not much is going on, with the exception of the usual stress and the random lung attack I had two nights ago....yea, I had pleurisy. WTF?
I am totally obsessed with this website though. I entered my photos on it a few days ago and I've gotten some really great responses. Basically, it's a chance to get your photos of lovely music city published in a book and/or DVD! If you're feeling loving, go ahead and sign up and vote for my photos! To find mine, go to search, then type in MegLangford - and my photos should come up. I've been featured already in the "greatest photos" section, so there's a good chance I'll be featured! woo hoo! Some of my friends have already gotten on and voted, and I REALLY APPRECIATE IT! ;-)
anywho, ta ta for now....

a few things.

1) Dear Mr. Man I let cross today while I was driving in the Kroger parking lot:
It would be very nice if next time I let you cross, you don't walk as slowly as possible and PICK UP THE PACE A LITTLE! DANG!

2) Eat this. It's amazing. I prefer the pumpkin spice fat free bread. Very dense, and DELISH! I have only seen them at smoothie king thus far. There's a chocolate cappucino I'm dying to try.

3) M.I.A.. Enough Said.

Sounds delish. Mimosas??

The weekend in a nutshell.

What a waste of rediculously expensive champagne. Totally Meg and Mom style. It was so nice to be home. Mom and her broken leg were just fine. The dog got fat because of her steriods she's on for cancer :( But she's still fabulous! I got my fill of crab, oysters, clams, shrimp all in two days. Amazing. Besides the return plane ride from Hates, it was a great weekend!

Brief summation of the plane ride home: two EXTREMELY loud, rude, foreigners literally yelling at each other the entire flight home in some highly obnixious language. And I'm not exaggerating. They were LOUD. Did they REALIZE it was a 10pm flight and NO ONE around them could sleep? Note - I probably would have found them very interesting and cool had they not been seated directly behind me while I was attempting to sleep. Also, there was the "loud, huffy-puffy" woman sitting next to me who couldn't seem to move without making some sort of huffy-puffy sound. DROVE ME FRIGGIN crazy. She kept coughing into the Sky Mall magazine - all I could think about was how many of those I thumb through. Never again.... Also, whoever the hell kept farting around me. Probably one of the highly annoying people I was surrounded by. I had my iPod cranked to full blast and could not overpower the babble or the huffy puff. Needless to say, I wasn't in the best of moods last night when I got home. Poor Cordie.

ripchord random

I'm going home this weekend. I'm uber excited. Going home to take of the broken-legged mama. And her poisioned- by- boat- cleaning- stuff boyfriend. He's in the hospital. Geeze. Meghann to the rescue! I'm anxious to see what she's gonna say about the brown hair. Probably "ugh, it makes you look cold and unapproachable." Not really. She'll tell me I'm cute no matter what. Or I'll just put a beer just out of reach for her and then we'll see who laughs last. Just kidding, my mom and I are so close - I'd never do that to her, or would I?? :-) I can't wait to see her!

I got her this bag (see picture, below) for mothers day. My work wife, The Orange Bicycle made it for me! I picked out the fabric, and she made me a fab freaking tote! I'm so wanting one for myself. It just might have to happen.

I accidentally bought a two year old magazine today. Who the hell sells two year old magazines like they're hot items, really? Still looks like a good read - article about the Raconteurs and how Nashville "rocks" - we'll see how outdated it really is.
I'm wearing shorts today. Not so sure about the ol' legs. They look like 40 year old women legs.
I got a pretty dang good raise today. I was also allowed to borrow some Rilo Kiley CDs from Cheebs, which I'm currently swaying to. Love.
My friend Chad at work is involved in a very cool movie project called The Nashville 9. Check it out here. And watch the trailer.
